Each of the PhD programmes at University of Nordland consists of three years' full-time research education and training. The completion of a relevant master's degree is a minimum requirement for admission to all the PhD programmes.
 
The education and training in the programmes consist of:
  • Academically relevant courses equivalent to half a year's study
  • A dissertation based on a piece of independent research
  • Participation in the national and international research environment
  • Relevant professional dissemination
  • Final examination including the trial lecture and the doctoral defence
